DREAM | CREATE | FAIL | SLEEP | REPEAT

What if you can write your portfolio by just thinking about it? What if you could communicate with animals? What if you can reverse climate change? What if you could live on another planet? What if you could make Generative AI available for everyone?

What if you don’t know how to use all the new innovations, but you do want to make awesome stuff? In that case ICT & Future Innovators will give you a life changing journey that will broaden your horizon in innovative technology and its interaction with humans. Just tune in to both your creativity and your technical curiosity to see what impact you can make on the world. And remember, it’s most important to dream big and dare to fail!

With ICT & Future Innovators you learn how to develop creative, technical concepts and evolve them into impactful pieces of innovation. You create interactive, digital concepts of the future and work on experimental prototypes with emerging technologies. Always with a positive impact on society in mind. You will have the possibility to bring your ideas to life and learn from them. So, join our club and let’s upgrade that brain of yours!

"If you like to fool around with new technology and come up with creative concepts for a future world, then this program is definitely something for you!" Mijke van der Zee
Content

Innovation starts with dreaming. As a Future Innovator you will learn to imagine things that aren't there yet for a future world you believe in. Our recipe?

  • Play with new technology
  • Fall in love with a challenge
  • Connect with the real world and its people
  • Embrace learning, make mistakes

We start with a week of messing around and experiment with new technologies such as Generative AI, VR, AR, Machine learning, Deep Fake, Face and Posture recognition, Biometrics, Holobox, etc.  A good thing is we don’t expect you to have any knowledge, but just a curious mindset to discover new things.

From discovering what new technologies can do, we work in small groups on a What If-challenge of your own choice. These challenges each impact the user and their environment in their own way, exploring the relationship between humans and technology. You will be thinking outside-of-the-box and create a proof of concept for the challenge.

In the second half of the semester, you work on an assignment from a company and come up with an innovative solution and make several proof of concepts.

During the projects you will have several workshops that will help you in creative thinking and discovering the possibilities of new technologies. Topics are: Future Technology, Speculative Design, Critical Thinking, Creative Coding Frameworks, Concepting, Rapid Prototyping, Wizard of Oz technique, Embrace Failing, etc. The outcomes of the workshops form proof for your portfolio and you can apply the knowledge to your projects.

Field

After finishing your education you could work in broad spectrum of professions. Some do not even exist yet! But it could either be a creative profession with technology skills like a designer of new forms of interaction or a tech profession with creative skills like a robotics engineer for health care.

Some examples:

  • As a Media Designer you can craft immersive experiences that educate and drive social change through three-dimensional storytelling and interactive content.
  • As an IT Business Consultant, you are able to identify and implement disruptive technologies that not only optimize business processes but also address societal challenges like sustainability and inclusivity.
  • As a Software Engineer you could develop cutting-edge software solutions that tackle pressing issues such as healthcare access or environmental sustainability.
  • As a Technology Specialist you could utilize embedded software to address needs such as environmental monitoring or resource management.
  • As an Infrastructure Specialist you can design wireless technologies that support connectivity and enable solutions for renewable energy distribution or smart transportation.

You are ready to work with technologies of the future. Technologies that might not yet have been invented. With these, you create solutions that have a real impact on people and society. You are a Future Innovator!
